MISSIONS

We affirm that the God of the Bible is a global God who seeks and finds His own beyond every geographic border. Scripture clearly describes “the why” of missions:

  • Acts 1:8 gives us the scope: Be witnesses to the ends of the earth.

  • Matthew 28: 19-20 gives us the goal: Reach all nations (meaning, ethnic groups).

  • Revelation 7: 9-10 gives us the result: Some from every tribe praising God.

Our mission is to join God’s mission in reaching the world with the Gospel, inviting the nations to be a part of His redemption plan and kingdom. We want to see broken individuals restored back to a right relationship with God that transforms the inner person, their relationship with their neighbor and with all of creation.

Coggin is actively engaged in spreading the Gospel in Brown County, in the United States, and internationally.

At Coggin, we love going on mission trips and visiting the missionaries we support. This year, 2023, we are finally going to be able to go on international trips again. Praise the Lord!

We have five mission trips planned for the summer. Click the image for more information!

LOCAL Missions

Love Brownwood

Chris Stuard provides leadership to Love Brownwood, an in-house ministry to our city and Brown County. Currently, the ministry focuses on these opportunities:

  • Prayer-walking the neighborhood surrounding Coggin

  • Gospel Conversations is a class on how to have authentic, natural conversations so we may easily share the Gospel in any and all contexts.

  • Parenting classes for parents who want to strengthen their parenting skills. The curriculum is faith-based, and facilitates conversations about following Jesus.

  • Benevolence and Faith & Finances Sometimes there is a need to “provide a man a fish so he can eat for a day”. Yet more often the real need is to “teach a man how to fish so he may eat for a lifetime.” We use a process learned from the series When Helping Hurts that facilitates an accurate assessment of the real need. Coggin advocates for approaches that strengthen people’s attitudes, skills, and capacities so that they may manage their money and other resources in ways that honor God and their families.

Partnerships with local organizations are essential for reaching our neighbors and loving them well while never compromising the truth of God’s word. Coggin partners with:

  • Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM)

  • Brown County Home Solutions (BCHS)

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

  • Christian Women Job Corps (CWJC)

  • Pregnancy Care Center (PCC)

  • Heart of Texas Baptist Network (HOTBN)

  • Heart of Texas Camp and Retreat (HOTCR)

National Missions

Church Planting

There are thousands of communities in the United States without healthy, Bible-believing churches. Coggin partners with church planters who labor to establish vibrant communities of faith. Our current partners are:

  • Jared and Jen Huntley are planting Pillar Church of San Antonio. They previously planted Pillar Church of Washington, D.C., and Fellowship Oshawa in Oshawa, Canada.

  • José and Marylú Marco are planting Emmanuel Church in Madison, Wisconsin.

  • Doug & Dana Hixson are planting Connection Church in Longmont, Colorado.

  • Living Rock Church in Colorado has merged with a daughter church to become Compass Church.

  • Fellowship Oshawa in Ontario, Canada.

International Students Living in the US:

  • Kyle & Irina Ford minister to international students at UT in Austin.

Church Planting in Closed or Restricted Countries

We also support missionaries in countries where the Gospel cannot be shared freely. For their safety, we only give their initials and region of service.

  • D. & K. T. – Asia

  • C. & A. K. – Asia (Discipled at Coggin)

  • A. & R. T. – Asia (Discipled at Coggin)

  • V. C. – Asia (Discipled at Coggin)

Many of the missionaries we support have been discipled at Coggin. We support missionaries and do short-term mission trips, but we want to do more than support missionaries! We want to raise up more missionaries. We focus on missions with every age group (children, youth, and adults) discipling, calling out, and equipping those who have an interest in or sense a call to mission work.

Living a life on mission is not limited to those who go overseas. Rather, every follower of Jesus Christ is called to do something so that the Gospel reaches the ends of the earth: pray, give, learn, go, advocate for missionaries, and/or mobilize the next generation of go-ers.

Each year we have two special offerings for missions: the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions and the Mission 1:8 Offering for a designated purpose that varies from year to year.

Learn

Each Spring and Fall semester, we offer “Momentum” a 6-week missions class. We explore different cultures, religions, and how we can engage different cultures that we meet in our own town.

Go

Every year, we go on mission trips serving and encouraging the missionaries we support. We’ll keep you up to date on this page about upcoming mission trips.

Registration is already closed, but this summer, 2022, we are going to Madison, WI, to visit the church planters Jose & MaryLu Marco, and Longmont, CO, to visit church planters, Doug & Dana Hixson.

Mission trips for 2023 will be posted as soon as possible.
